Kwik Kerb is a household name in most of North America. It has been offered by operators in the US and Canada for over 25 years, through a process that is continually improved and has been proven to resist the elements better than almost any alternative out there.
Kwik Kerb is formed from a low-slump, concentrated concrete mix by an extruding machine. The extrusion process adds strength by machine-compacting the concrete and forcing it through a form. This packs the concrete more tightly than gravity alone is capable of, and creates a durable product that will stand the test of time.
Installation
Our experienced operators install your concrete curb above the frost-line, so that multiple temperature levels will not affect the concrete's expansion and contraction rates. This eliminates the chance of weather damage in Canada's wide-ranging climate. We add control joints to the curbing every 3 linear feet - or less, depending on the shape and profile of curb - to ensure that ground movements and extreme temperature changes do not adversely affect the curb. Kwik Kerb's mix has been specially formulated to ensure it can handle whatever the weather throws its way without becoming damaged under the stress.
We use a 1/2"-3/4" slump mix, which reduces the amount of water in the formed concrete, and therefore the amount of empty space within the concrete once it has dried, adding strength and density. Our curbing is also treated with a highly concentrated concrete mixture that becomes extremely hard, making it resistant to scratching, chipping, flaking and weathering. This method, which most other curbing companies do not use, is one of the reasons that Kwik Kerb stands behind its product and has served millions of customers around the world. Using high-grade color release powder, we imprint stone-like patterns and one of a variety of different stamps into the surface of your curb. Finally, we apply a curing sealer, which slows the curing time and allows for a strength-inducing slow settle as the water dries out of the curb. This curing sealer also makes cleaning off the curb a breeze - simply break out the hose and give it a rinse!
Upkeep and Maintainance
Kwik Kerb is a hands-off product. You don't have to dig it in again every spring, or shuffle it around. It just sits there, looking beautiful, from the day it's installed to the day you move and give us a call from your new place, because you've come to realize that once you've got it, you just can't live without it!
We do recommend applying a standard concrete sealer annually in order to keep the finish as pristine and defined as the day it was installed. Concrete sealer does more than accentuate the colour, modeling, and stamping of the curb. It also acts as an important weather barrier, guarding against the wear that continuous rain and wind can put on concrete, to preserve the beautiful finish that your curb has. We offer follow-up sealing services for a small fee, or, you can take care of sealing yourself. Once we've finished your installation, let us know if you'd like us to give you a call the following spring to come back and re-seal your curb
A Few Recommendations to Keep Your Curbs in Pristine Shape
After the installation, please ensure that your sprinkler system is turned off for at least 24 hours to allow a good cure to set in to the surface of the curb, and also that pets avoid walking on it for at least 24 hours. Our curbs generally take 5-7 days to cure all the way through, from outside in, so we suggest waiting at least a few days before doing any digging around them. The surface will be hard to the touch the day after installation, but watering is not necessary as we apply a curing sealer to the curb, which slows down moisture release and ensures a stronger cure.
If you are getting curbs installed along your driveway, we recommend using neon marker flags through the winter to ensure that your snow blower doesn't chip the surface, or the blade of your snow plow doesn't scratch the finish.
We recommend using a concrete sealer annually. Kwik kerb is an investment in the beauty of your property, the pride you take in its ownership, and a timeless and elegant means of solving the old problem of garden vs lawn. Kwik Kerb ensures that "this goes here" and "that stays there" in your outdoor realm. At Kwik Kerb, we encourage you to protect your investment with a concrete sealer to maintain that fine finish look for many years to come.
Mowing and Trimming: If you have purchased the mower-edge curb, you can simply run your lawn mower wheel right on the lower guide section of the curb to get a level cut on your grass. If you have purchased any of our other stamped curbs, using a nylon string whipper-snipper will not harm the finish on the curb and can be used to keep the grass in front of the curb trim and neat.
