Gravel driveways are a mainstay in Canada, where property sizes often make it uneconomical to install asphalt paving, let alone poured concrete or interlocking paving stones. With the wide variety of stone types available at landscaping and stone suppliers, a country lane or large driveway and parking area can be made to look beautiful for a tiny fraction of the cost of paving or concrete.
Unfortunately, as owners of gravel lanes and parking areas well know, they require some vigilance to maintain a clean property look and the original striking appearance they first had when the stone was delivered and graded. Plants encroach onto the outer edges of the gravel, and gravel likewise tends to travel out and away from the driveway, creating a sort of hybrid edge area where few things grow, some stones are visible, and clean lines and symmetry are absent.
